Melbourne, 19 April: Melbourne’s Bengali community came together in large numbers to celebrate ‘Boishakhi Mela 2026’, one of the community’s biggest annual events, held on Saturday, 18 April. Organised by Bongoshathi and presented by Ausiz Group, the event took place at the Werribee Indoor Sports Centre from 4:30 pm to 11:00 pm.

Marking the Bengali New Year, the venue was filled with a festive atmosphere from the outset, as visitors of all ages gathered to celebrate their cultural heritage. The event quickly transformed into a lively cultural hub, showcasing the richness of Bengali traditions.

A key highlight of the mela was its engaging live cultural performances, featuring music, dance, recitation, and a colourful fashion show, all of which captivated the audience. More than 25 food and market stalls offered a wide variety of traditional Bengali cuisine, allowing visitors to enjoy authentic flavours. Fashion and crafts stalls displaying sarees, garments, jewellery, and handmade items also drew significant attention.

The event was attended by Australian Members of Parliament Joanne Ryan and John Lister, along with local city council mayors and councillors, whose presence added to the significance of the occasion.
