Rezwana Choudhury Bannya performs Rabindra Sangeet in Melbourne as part of the Rabindra Jayanti 2026 celebration organised by Bangasathi.

Melbourne, January 29: Melbourne is set to immerse itself in the timeless spirit of Rabindranath Tagore as Bangasathi organises a special cultural evening to mark Rabindra Jayanti 2026, featuring renowned Rabindra Sangeet exponent Rezwana Choudhury Bannya and her ensemble.

The event is being organised to honour the birth anniversary of Tagore and to pay tribute to his unparalleled contributions to Bengali literature, music, and culture. Beyond commemoration, the programme aims to celebrate the richness of Indian and Bengali cultural heritage within Australia’s multicultural landscape.

Members of the Bengali and multicultural communities gather at Centenary Theatre, Williamstown, for the Rabindra Jayanti programme.

At the heart of the evening will be a live musical performance by Rezwana Choudhury Bannya and her team, presenting Tagore’s compositions in an authentic and refined form. The programme has been thoughtfully designed not only for the Bengali diaspora but also for Australia’s diverse multicultural audience, with a strong emphasis on cultural exchange, community participation, and artistic excellence.

Members of the Indian community and the broader multicultural society from across Melbourne are expected to attend the event. The initiative reflects Bangasathi’s ongoing commitment to promoting cultural heritage in Victoria, supporting high-quality artistic performances, and fostering inclusive community engagement through meaningful cultural programmes.

For the Bengali community in the diaspora, Rabindranath Tagore remains more than a literary icon; he represents a living tradition of language, culture, and humanistic values. In this context, the Rabindra Jayanti celebration in Melbourne is expected to become a memorable cultural gathering that reconnects generations with their roots through music, poetry, and shared cultural experience.
