Protest Held in New York Demanding Justice for Murdered Hindu Family in Rangpur

New York August 26: Members of the Bangladeshi Hindu community and other concerned residents gathered in New York to demand a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible for the killing of four members of the same Hindu family in Rangpur, Bangladesh.

The demonstration and human chain were held at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights. Participants carried photographs of the victims, protest placards and banners while calling for justice and stronger protection for Bangladesh’s religious minorities.

The principal banner displayed photographs of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, their daughter Agami Chakraborty and son Ayush Chakraborty. The protest was organised by United Hindus of USA Inc.

Speakers described the killing of an entire family as deeply distressing and alarming. They called for an independent, impartial, transparent and evidence-based investigation capable of uncovering the complete truth behind the deaths.

They said the investigation should not be limited to the arrests of suspects or reported confessional statements. Authorities should thoroughly examine whether any additional individuals, groups or motives were connected to the killings.

The demonstrators also called on the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of religious minorities and provide equal protection under the law to every citizen. They said advocacy and protests at home and abroad would continue until credible justice was secured for Ganapati Chakraborty and his family.

Police recovered the bodies of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata, daughter Agami and son Ayush from their home in Rangpur’s Machhuapara area on the night of 22 August.

Two young men have been arrested in connection with the case. Police said they had given confessional statements before a court. The investigation has since been transferred to the Detective Branch.
