Hindu Schoolgirl Rescued After Being Found Bound Inside Locked Toilet In Bangladesh

Melbourne, 22 August-  A Year 9 Hindu student has been rescued from a school toilet in Dighalia, Khulna, around five hours after classes ended, with her hands, feet and mouth bound. The toilet had reportedly been locked from the outside.

Construction workers working at the school heard groaning coming from inside the toilet and broke the lock to rescue the student. She was initially taken to a local doctor in a serious condition and was later admitted to a private hospital in Khulna after her condition deteriorated.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, 20 August, at Gazi Hat Haji Naim Uddin Secondary School in Dighalia Upazila. The girl is a Year 9 student at the school.

According to the school’s headteacher Mrinal Kanti and local residents, classes finished at around 2pm. Teachers, staff and students then left the school premises.

At around 7pm, several construction workers at the school heard unusual sounds coming from inside a toilet. As they approached, they reportedly heard a woman’s groans and became suspicious.

The workers found that the toilet had been locked from the outside. They broke the lock and entered, where they found the student lying on the floor with her hands, feet and mouth tied.

The workers quickly rescued her and took her to the clinic of local doctor Mofizur Rahman Shafin. She received initial treatment there, but her condition later deteriorated, prompting her admission to a private hospital in Khulna.

According to the girl’s family, the student, identified as Nandita, entered the toilet shortly after school finished at around 2pm. The family alleged that someone struck her on the head from behind. After she fell to the ground, the attackers allegedly tied her hands, feet and mouth and left her inside the toilet.

The girl’s mother, Shimul Roy, alleged that an injection had been administered to her daughter. She also claimed that the girl had been cut with a blade in several places, leaving her bleeding. Police said the details of these allegations would become clearer after the investigation.

Dighalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Howladar Sanwar Hossain Masum said the student had spoken to her family members while receiving treatment. However, she reportedly told them that she did not see her attackers and could not provide detailed information about the incident.

The police officer said officers had been sent to the school to investigate the incident. Police are examining who may have been involved, why the student was allegedly confined inside the toilet and whether anyone else was connected to the incident.

Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible as soon as possible.
