Melbourne, March 16: The 98th Academy Awards delivered a night of major wins, historic moments and strong performances, with “One Battle After Another” emerging as the biggest winner of the ceremony. The film took home six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, Best Film Editing, and the new Best Casting award.
Another major contender of the night was “Sinners”, which won four Oscars. The film earned Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler, Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson, and Best Cinematography for Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Arkapaw’s win was especially significant, as she became the first woman ever to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
In the lead actress category, Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her performance in “Hamnet”, while Amy Madigan received Best Supporting Actress for “Weapons.” These acting wins were among the most talked-about moments of the evening and helped shape a ceremony filled with both expected victories and notable surprises.
Several other films also made their mark across major categories. “KPop Demon Hunters” won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.” Norway’s “Sentimental Value” claimed Best International Feature, while “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” won Best Documentary Feature. Meanwhile, “Frankenstein” collected three technical Oscars for Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling, and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” won Best Visual Effects. “F1” took home the Oscar for Best Sound.
This year’s Oscars reflected a broad mix of prestige drama, technical excellence, international storytelling and fresh milestones.
