Bongosathi Team Visits Parliament House on Guided Tour

Melbourne, 19 February 2026: A delegation from Bongosathi visited Victoria’s Parliament House on Wednesday as part of a guided educational tour, giving members a firsthand look at Australia’s democratic institutions and the historic building where key decisions for the community are made.

During the tour, participants entered the Legislative Chambers where laws are debated and passed, and learned about the long-standing mystery of the stolen mace. Members also experienced the Westminster-style parliamentary system by sitting in a Member of Parliament’s chair, gaining a practical understanding of how the chamber operates.

The group visited the grand hall named after Queen Victoria, where they took photos with her statue and admired portraits of former Premiers displayed along the walls. They also explored the historic Parliamentary Library, which played a significant role in convincing the Federal Parliament to occupy the building from 1901 to 1927.

Throughout the visit, knowledgeable guides explained the history and functions of the Parliament House, answered questions about parliamentary work, and shared information on how citizens can engage in the democratic process and get involved in community and civic activities.

The group was led by Dr Rabindra Nath, who shared his appreciation with OTN Bangla after the visit. He extended sincere thanks to Mathew Hilakari, MP and Labor candidate for Point Cook in the upcoming Victorian State Election, for facilitating the opportunity for the community group to experience Parliament House up close.

Members of Bongosathi said they were truly excited and enjoyed every moment of the visit. Many described the tour as a valuable learning experience that helped them better understand the democratic system, the history of the Parliament, and how decisions affecting the community are made.
