Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has raised alarm over alleged threats to demolish the historic Radha-Gobinda Temple in Gaibandha, urging authorities to take immediate steps to protect the site and preserve communal harmony.

Melbourne, 7 June 2026: The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has issued an urgent press statement expressing deep concern over continued threats to demolish the historic Radha-Gobinda Temple in Gaibandha district.

According to the statement released by the organisation’s Central Committee on Saturday night, a video containing threats of an attack on the temple has been circulating widely on social media. The temple is located in Hansbari village under Komorpur Union of Hosenpur Upazila in Gaibandha.

The Council stated that the viral threats have created fear and anxiety among local residents, as well as religious and ethnic minority communities across the country. The organisation warned that such incidents could potentially trigger communal unrest and negatively affect social harmony and Bangladesh’s international image.

In its statement, the Council called upon the government, local administration, civil society representatives, and political leaders to take immediate and effective measures to ensure communal peace and protect the temple from any potential attack. It also demanded that those responsible for spreading threats and inciting communal tensions be identified, brought to justice, and punished in accordance with the law.

The organisation further noted that the Radha-Gobinda Temple complex serves not only as a place of worship but also houses an old-age home, a medical service centre, and several public welfare institutions. Various social and development activities have reportedly been operating from the premises for many years.

The press statement was issued by Monindra Kumar Nath, Acting General Secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, who urged authorities to take swift action to safeguard the temple and maintain communal harmony.
