Melbourne, 25 November 2025: The IEEE Victorian Section and Tasmanian Subsection successfully hosted their highly anticipated 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Angliss Restaurant, Melbourne, VIC, on 25 November 2025, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm AEDT. The event delivered an evening of reflection, recognition and celebration as members reviewed the year’s accomplishments and honoured outstanding contributors across the region.

Founded in 1983, the IEEE Victorian Section serves as Victoria’s local geographic unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) — the world’s largest technical professional organisation committed to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Globally, IEEE connects nearly 500,000 members across 190 countries, forming one of the world’s most influential communities of scientists, engineers and technology professionals.

Operating from Melbourne, the Victorian Section represents almost 2,000 members from diverse technical fields, including photonics, computational intelligence, biomedical engineering, robotics, medicine and engineering management. Its dynamic community includes students, young professionals, women in engineering, academics, researchers, industry leaders, government representatives and technical consultants.

The 2025 AGM highlighted the Victorian and Tasmanian Sections’ major milestones and achievements throughout the year. One of the key features of the evening was the formal recognition of volunteers whose dedication has played a vital role in strengthening the Section’s programs, outreach and community engagement.

Outgoing Chair of the IEEE Victorian Section (2024–25), Vijay S Paul, reflected on the collective achievements of the past year:
“Looking back at 2025, I am immensely proud of what our community has accomplished together. Our volunteers, members and partners have continued to elevate the impact of IEEE across Victoria and Tasmania. This success is a testament to the passion, professionalism and collaborative spirit that define our Section. I am grateful for the privilege of serving as Chair and extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to another remarkable year.”

Incoming Chair Biplob Ray expressed his enthusiasm for leading the Section into its next chapter:
“I am honoured to take on this responsibility and excited for what lies ahead. The foundation built by previous leaders and our dedicated membership gives us great momentum. In the coming years, we will focus on strengthening industry partnerships, enhancing opportunities for students and early-career professionals, and expanding our engagement across emerging technologies. Together, we will continue to shape a vibrant and forward-thinking IEEE community that drives innovation for societal benefit.”

The evening brought together an elite audience of some of Victoria’s brightest scientific and technological minds, marking the event as a significant milestone in the state’s innovation landscape. With a blend of retrospection and forward-looking vision, the 2025 AGM set a strong tone for continued collaboration, professional growth and technological advancement in the years to come.
