Melbourne: More than AUD 4.3 million has already been raised. To complete the final settlement of the property by 16 February 2026, the Centre for Puja and Culture Limited (CPCL) is now calling on the community for its final round of support.
A long-cherished dream of the Hindu and Bangladeshi community in Australia is now standing at the very threshold of reality. For generations, the vision of building a permanent spiritual and cultural home in this land has been carried in countless hearts. After more than two decades of tireless dedication, sacrifice and collective effort, CPCL has successfully secured a significant property in Blacktown, Sydney, bringing this historic vision closer than ever before.
The property, located at 33 Bedford Road along with two adjoining blocks, covers approximately 4,461.5 square metres and lies within a government-approved zone for places of worship. This is not just land; it represents the foundation of a permanent temple, cultural hub, and identity for future generations of Hindus in Australia. It marks a milestone in the spiritual and cultural history of the community.

Founded in 2003 under the inspiration of the Bangladesh Society for Puja and Culture Incorporated, CPCL was established with the goal of creating a permanent Bangladeshi spiritual, cultural and heritage centre in Australia.
OTN Bangla spoke with Dr Swapan Paul, Chair of the current Executive Committee of CPCL, who shared his joy and optimism:
“For so many years, we have had to hold our pujas, festivals and religious gatherings in rented halls and temporary venues, always dealing with uncertainty and limitations. Sometimes it was venue availability, sometimes timing, sometimes suitability. Every event came with its own challenges. But now, that long period of instability is coming to an end. With our own permanent centre, our religious and cultural practices will gain dignity, continuity and respect, creating a proud legacy for Bangladeshis and a new horizon for the next generation.”
Dr Paul added that the land will be developed into a temple, cultural centre, educational facilities and a community hall. Beyond this, there is a visionary and compassionate future plan that includes safe and dignified housing for seniors and NDIS-supported services for community members with special needs.
The financial and land acquisition process is now in its final phase. The total cost of the project is approximately AUD 5 million, with the land itself valued at AUD 4.6 million. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the community and the organisation’s relentless efforts, nearly AUD 4.3 million has already been secured, covering more than 85 percent of the required amount.
CPCL has made a conscious decision not to take bank loans.
As Dr Paul explained:
“Starting a religious and cultural institution under the burden of debt can make the future very difficult. We want this temple to stand free, strong and sustainable for generations. That is why we have chosen not to rely on bank loans.”
This makes direct community support the only path forward. The final settlement for the property is scheduled for 16 February 2026, and to ensure a smooth and timely completion, community members are requested to make their contributions by 16 January, or at the latest 31 January. Every donation during this period will go directly towards completing the land purchase.

This project is not only for today’s generation. It is designed for the future. Over time, the site will evolve into a comprehensive temple complex, including ample parking, function halls, commercial facilities, senior living spaces and social service centres. It will become a vibrant spiritual and social ecosystem where faith, culture and humanity come together.
The current Executive Committee warmly welcomes contributions from all.
