“When asked if he would like to meet Donald Trump, Bondai hero Ahmed Al Ahmed said, ‘I wish. He is a hero of the world. I love him. He is a strong man.’”

Melbourne, January 9: Bondi hero Ahmed Al Ahmed, who was critically injured while saving lives during the deadly Bondi Beach terror attack in Sydney, has arrived in New York to receive advanced medical treatment. Upon his arrival, he publicly praised former US President Donald Trump, calling him “a hero of the world” and expressing his admiration for him.

The 43-year-old was shot multiple times during the December 14 Bondi Beach massacre, which took place during the “Chanukah by the Sea” celebration. During the attack, Ahmed bravely confronted one of the gunmen and attempted to wrestle the weapon from him to stop further killings. He was shot in the process, but his courageous action helped save many innocent lives.

Ahmed’s journey to the United States began in Los Angeles, where he was accompanied by FBI personnel, before continuing to New York for specialist treatment. He described the trip as “a long journey, but a necessary one” as he seeks advanced medical care for his injuries.

When asked whether he would like to meet Donald Trump, Ahmed said:

“I wish. He is a hero of the world. I love him. He is a strong man.”

Sharing his recovery journey

Ahmed has been documenting his medical journey on his newly created Instagram account, which has already gained more than 5,000 followers. In one of his posts, he wrote:

“On my way to start my treatment journey in the United States. I kindly ask everyone to keep me in their prayers. Thank you for your love and support.”

Supporters from around the world have been sending him messages of encouragement and prayers.

Honoured as a national hero

Just days before travelling to the United States, Ahmed and other victims and heroes of the Bondi attack were honoured during the Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was recognised alongside first responders, including intensive care paramedics, NSW police officers, hospital staff, SES members, and lifeguards.

Ahmed was seen with his arm in a sling after suffering five gunshot wounds during the attack. He has already undergone three rounds of surgery.

“I only wanted to save lives”

In an exclusive interview with CBS, Ahmed said:

“My goal was just to take the gun from him and to stop him from killing people. I wanted to protect innocent lives.”

A father of three, Ahmed Al Ahmed has become a global symbol of courage, humanity, and self-sacrifice.

$2.5 million raised for his recovery

While recovering in hospital, Ahmed was presented with a $2.5 million cheque raised through GoFundMe to support his ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The Bondi Beach terror attack claimed the lives of 15 innocent people, but Ahmed Al Ahmed’s bravery has ensured he will be remembered around the world as a true hero who stood up for humanity in the face of terror.
