National platform for around 1,800 Bangladeshi doctors

According to FBMSA, approximately 1,800 doctors of Bangladeshi origin live and work across Australia’s six states and two territories. They contribute to hospitals, general practice, universities, research and other areas of healthcare.

Through its activities, FBMSA aims to connect their professional knowledge, experience and expertise with opportunities to strengthen medical education, healthcare, research and technical capacity in Bangladesh.

The federation also plans further initiatives to assist doctors migrating from Bangladesh as they establish their careers in Australia. These initiatives will include guidance on the Australian healthcare system and pathways into medical practice, as well as professional networking, mentoring and other forms of support for newly arrived doctors.

FBMSA also intends to strengthen connections between experienced clinicians and the next generation of doctors and medical students of Bangladeshi origin growing up in Australia, with a focus on their education, leadership and professional development.

Strengthening Australia–Bangladesh healthcare cooperation

Alongside promoting professional cooperation among Bangladeshi doctors in Australia, FBMSA works with the Bangladesh Government and medical and professional organisations in Bangladesh to support improvements in the country’s health services.

Its priorities include expanding opportunities to share Australian experience and expertise in areas such as primary care, general practice, medical education, doctors’ training and skills development.

Through scientific conferences, symposia, educational programs and professional development activities, the federation also seeks to strengthen communication, knowledge sharing and cooperation among Bangladeshi doctors throughout Australia.

The new Executive Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding these activities and building closer links between the Bangladeshi medical community in Australia and Bangladesh’s healthcare sector through the exchange of knowledge, skills and experience.
