Melbourne, August 26: Dr Md. Anwarul Islam, Professor in the Department of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM) at the University of Dhaka, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Funded by the United States Department of State, the fellowship will enable Dr Islam to join the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar from 1 September 2026.

His selection marks a significant milestone, as he is the first academic from the University of Dhaka’s Department of Information Science and Library Management to receive a Fulbright Fellowship.

During the fellowship, Dr Islam will conduct research on information ethics in the age of artificial intelligence. The subject has become increasingly important as the rapid development of AI continues to reshape how information is created, accessed, shared and used across society.

His research will examine emerging ethical concerns surrounding information, technology and AI, contributing to a deeper understanding of their implications for individuals, institutions and contemporary society.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr Islam said, “I am deeply honoured to receive this prestigious fellowship. I look forward to advancing research on information ethics and contributing to a responsible and inclusive future for artificial intelligence.”

The achievement is expected to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the University of Dhaka and the University of Tennessee while bringing international recognition to Bangladesh’s information science and library management community.
