Melbourne, VIC, 25 July—State Member for Point Cook Mathew Hilakari MP has announced a $1.2 million investment to restore the historic Point Cook Homestead and improve access to Point Cook Coastal Park, marking a significant step towards preserving one of the area’s most valued heritage sites.

The funding will be used to restore and upgrade the Homestead and surrounding parkland, allowing the community to once again enjoy this important local landmark. The project will unlock the gates to provide easier public access to the Homestead and nearby beach while strengthening security measures to protect the site from unauthorised access and vandalism.

As part of the restoration, the Homestead will undergo essential infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to its electrical system, heating and cooling, roofing, and accessibility features. These works are intended to make the historic building suitable for greater community use and ensure it remains accessible to people of all abilities.

The project will also focus on cleaning and revitalising the surrounding grounds and gardens, with local community groups playing an active role in restoring the landscape and preserving the site’s heritage features as part of a long-term conservation effort. New community spaces will also be created to provide welcoming areas where families, visitors and local organisations can gather, hold events and create lasting memories.

Announcing the initiative, Mr Hilakari said the investment is about protecting Point Cook’s rich heritage while ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy the Homestead and Coastal Park. He encouraged residents and community organisations to be involved in shaping the future of the historic precinct, noting that many locals already have treasured memories of the site and that the restoration will help create many more.
