Grand Reunion of Jagannath Hall Alumni Association Australia Held in Sydney

Melbourne, July 19: A vibrant and memorable reunion of the Jagannath Hall Alumni Association Australia (JHAAA) was held in Sydney, bringing together former students, their families, and well-wishers in a celebration of heritage, friendship, and shared memories.

The much-anticipated JHAAA Reunion 2026 took place on Saturday, July 18, at the Redgum Centre in Wentworthville, New South Wales. The event continued from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with alumni members traveling from different states across Australia to participate in the grand gathering.

The program commenced with heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War and the Language Movement. An Acknowledgement of Country was also delivered, expressing respect for the traditional custodians of the land and the Indigenous communities of Australia.

The official inauguration ceremony followed with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by senior members of the Jagannath Hall Alumni Association Australia. A captivating dance performance to Rabindranath Tagore’s renowned song “Aloker Ei Jhornadharay Dhuye Dao” created an emotional and artistic atmosphere, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations.

One of the major highlights of the reunion was the beautifully crafted replicas of Jagannath Hall’s iconic Main Gate and South Building, which transported alumni back to their university days. The replica of the much-loved “Nepal Da’s Tea Stall” also attracted significant attention, allowing many former students to reconnect with cherished memories while capturing special moments through photographs.

The reunion became a platform for alumni to reconnect after many years and reminisce about their university life. The venue was filled with laughter, conversations, and nostalgic reflections. Preserving the legacy, history, and proud traditions of Jagannath Hall for future generations was also one of the key objectives of the gathering.

In his opening remarks, JHAAA General Secretary Kamal Joardar expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the reunion a success. He especially acknowledged the dedication of those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and the sponsors who provided valuable financial and organizational support.

One of the key organizers, Shatadal Talukder, said, “Former students have travelled from different parts of Australia, particularly from Melbourne and Brisbane, to participate in this reunion. Their enthusiastic presence has brought us immense joy. It proves that the love and emotional connection with Jagannath Hall can overcome all geographical distances.”

Another reunion committee member and one of the event sponsors, Bishwajit Chakraborty, told OTN Bangla,

“This gathering of Jagannath Hall alumni from different states of Australia is a matter of great joy for us. Such events not only bring back cherished memories but also strengthen our communication, friendship, and brotherhood within the diaspora. We believe initiatives like this will continue to reinforce our unity and harmony in the future.”

The cultural segment featured music, dance, and a variety of entertaining performances. One of the evening’s special attractions was a performance by Mehedi Hasan, runner-up of Channel i Sera Kontho, who captivated the audience with his popular songs. His energetic performance added to the festive spirit of the reunion.

Members of the Jagannath Hall Alumni Association living in different parts of the world also sent their greetings and best wishes for the success of the event, which were presented during the program.

The day-long reunion concluded successfully with family-oriented entertainment, warm interactions, memorable photo sessions, and a dinner gathering.

The organisers said such initiatives play an important role in strengthening communication, goodwill, and lifelong bonds among Jagannath Hall alumni living abroad. They expressed their commitment to continuing similar reunions in the future to preserve the spirit, heritage, and unity of the Jagannath Hall community.
